Toronto band Young Empires is set to release their full-length album “Wake All My Youth”. If you’re interested in seeing them live, their album release party is tonight at the Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West), with special guests Bravestation, Honheehonhee and Paradise Animals.

Toronto’s latest TA-ZE store, at 120 Adelaide Street West, was designed by Toronto-based Burdifilek, led by managing partner Paul Filek, and creative partner Diego Burdi. They managed to take a small 800 square foot space and turn it into an open, organized place of business. TA-ZE is a chain of retail stores focusing on premium olive oils and related products.

UforChange works with new Canadian and low-income youth living in and around St. James Town to inspire them and give them the tools to succeed by providing support and resources to pursue higher education, volunteering, job shadowing and/or employment opportunities. They help to connect youth with professionals, artists, and community leaders who teach them how to use the arts as a vehicle for economic, cultural and social change.

UforChange is a federally funded pilot project until March 31, 2012.

To kick off the 10th anniversary of Winterlicious presented by American Express, we invited some of our friends to join us for dinner on January 27th. With 175 restaurants to choose from, we narrowed it down to Lee Restaurant, created by world famous Master Chef Susur Lee.

If you’ve never been to Lee before, you don’t know what you’ve been missing. We enjoyed a tapas-style dining experience, sharing different items from the special Winterlicious prix fixe menu. We tried everything from their famous Singaporean style slaw and oyster shooters, to their tasty rack of lamb with fried banana, green curry lentil, chili mint and a carrot cardamom coconut chutney. (Mmmmm, so good!)

Black History Month starts today!

Toronto Facts
In the 1950’s, community organizations such as the Canadian Negro Women’s Association began to celebrate the importance of the history of the black community in Toronto. In 1979, Toronto became the first municipality in Canada to proclaim Black History Month through efforts of many individuals and organizations such as the Ontario Black History Society. In 1995, Toronto Area MP Jean Augustine introduced a motion which was passed unanimously by the House of Commons to recognise Black History Month across Canada.

Their latest lookbook includes a new track suit, tanks and tees, plus an introduction of Batawa (which happens to be a small town in eastern Ontario founded by the Bata family, and is the birthplace for NorthStar).
