Salad King Is Back…

On April, 16 2009 Salad King, a favourite Thai restaurant for those in the city and especially Ryerson students, was unexpectedly forced to close it’s doors. At around 12:30 construction workers removed a support and the walls for the front of the Empress Hotel building came crashing onto Gould. The building was very old and was in between a decision to demolish or designate as a heritage site. While no one was seriously hurt in the unexpected accident, and the city has done a great job to clean and maintain it, Salad King has still lost an estimated $1 million in revenue.
Happily with this sad ending there is now a new beginning. Salad King owner Ernest Liu and Linda Fung recently said in an interview with CityTV that they will be re-opening above the Foot Locker on Yonge Street. Once home to Reilly’s, it will now serve some of the finest Thai food Toronto has to offer. Munge Leung (Ultra Supper Club) will be in charge of the redesign, and come December we hope to enjoy the same Salad King experience we had since 1991 on Gould.

I am so happy to hear they will be re-opening their doors! Salad King was my favorite spot to crash at during those hectic study days at Ryerson!
can’t wait for it to come back…if for no other reason than they will clear the plates and pop cans that are still in the window!
Only place I go to eat when im kicking it at Ryerson… love their food and the atmosphere!
