Timeless From Toronto – Part 3

December 16.09   Posted by: T-RexXx   Categories: Culture, Music, Various

The words vintage, retro, and throwback have all been poorly used and exhausted, when used to describe music. Most throwbacks actually should be thrown back to wherever they were.

Then there are some songs that no matter when they came out, what hairstyle you were rocking at that time, or what grade you were in. When you hear that song it has a way of evoking the same emotion. The type of song that you memorize the videos and sing the ad-libs, these songs are defined as Timeless.

From time to time Brock and I will submit an entry for the 1loveto.com Timeless From Toronto vault, if you have any suggestions please leave a comment. Once the song is posted on the blog it is up to our readers to decide if it is indeed Timeless from Toronto.

time⋅less  [tahym-lis] – By our definition are the classic songs that have the same impact every single time.

throw⋅back  [throh-bak]- By our definition are old songs, yes just an old song that is not a classic just because it’s old.

Let me know, is it Timeless or merely a Throwback, WHICH ONE?

Also who would you say won the first round, Brock or Me?

If this was lets ride, it would be timeless. that video got a shit-tonne of play as a kid

  2. Bryan Brock says:

Even though we all know that I won last round, I’ll step up and say that this is Timeless!

Jully Black & Chocs, rocking the Nautica pull-overs with the Toronto skyline behind them, wow.

Sloop: I agree Let’s Ride would be Timeless, but this video is for the real hip-hop fans…if you were up on this before everybody knew Choclair, than I think you would agree this is still Timeless. Either way, great music from our city!

T-rexxx, I’ll be bringing the heat next round….watch out!

This video is timeless!! word up for those who were on this back in the 90’s know what I am talking about. And before this video no one (hip hop) ever did a video with the Toronto skyline behind them, fast forward 2009 and people still redoing what Choc did years ago. Much respect to the Circle for putting T.Dot on the map!

    THROWBACK.
for sure not timeless. i doubt if this came on the radio now it would work. not hating, just wouldnt be even close to a timeless song to me. or video…

maybe the song was meaningful at that time, so i dont want to take away from that.

  5. Milan says:

Timeless — almost didn’t recognize Chocs!

Are you guys posting music videos only? Because once you open it up to songs for which no videos were shot, this series could go on forever on almost a daily basis… there is a ridiculous amount of Toronto hip hop that is slept on to this day. Good to see you guys giving it shine.

looking forward to the next one.

Damn Chiznock wasn’t eatin then ha ha

Some might say they were biting Meth and Mary, but regardless, Im sure this inspired a lot of people in Toronto the year this dropped. Watching this video today really evokes those same feelings from back then….This is Timeless in my opinion

  7. ear2ear says:

Throwback. Rubbin’ is timeless in my book.

  8. sloop. says:

@Bryan…if rakim was from toronto i would have suggested that, imo, just a more timeless video as opposed to a throwback as this is.

  9. sloop. says:

organized rhyme better be next, ottawa, but still ontario and still hilarious

  10. Avila says:

    This one is tough…

I say Timeless in my mind but to the casual hip hop fan its just a throwback.
Backbone slide, My definition of a boombasitc jazz style, jamaican funk – those were played on 680 (what you know about that!!) and are timeless tracks!!

  11. Mike Jansen says:

Hmmm….this is one of my least favorite Choclair singles. Its his first video so it makes it a part of history but the raps on this song? I hope he was freestyling near the end.

Now if you put up 21 years you’d have a timeless joint on your hands.

Round one clearly goes to Brock but don’t worry T-rexxx, everyone loves a comeback story!

  12. T-RexXx says:

    lol @ comeback story

i got some real heat up next.
